Goals of the Program

The Master of Arts degree program in Applied Sociology is designed to provide students with the critical thinking and research skills needed in today's ever changing world. It emphasizes the practical application of social science research in solving contemporary social problems.

A primary objective is to provide students with a strong background in social theory and sociological research methods. Additional coursework emphasizes the application of theory and methods in a variety of substantive areas. The practicum in applied sociology gives students an opportunity to experience first hand how an applied sociologist functions in government, business, or social agencies. Concentrations foster the development of expertise in a selected area. Many courses in the program promote cross-cultural and global understanding.

The Master of Arts in Applied Sociology is also offered at the University's Athens campus with a concentration in Human Resource Management. The Athens program requires a term of study at the Indianapolis campus. For more information on the Athens campus you may visit www.uindy.gr or email graduate@uindy.edu.
