Social Work
Few fields offer as many challenges-or rewards-as social work. Modern social workers are trained to help people create solutions for their problems. Beyond that, social workers:
- empower people to advocate for social justice on behalf of themselves,
their families, and their neighborhoods
- interact with fascinating people from diverse cultures and ethnic
backgrounds in projects that range from protecting children to advocating
for the elderly
Social Work students study major core areas. Each area examines the theories, techniques, and values needed for effective social work. Core studies in diversity, values and ethics, populations at risk, and social and economic justice will help you begin generalist practice in social work. Our comprehensive curriculum provides a broad base of theory and skills necessary to prepare you for a career in working with people.
The Fieldwork Practica give each student hands-on supervised experiences in a variety of agency settings. Two different practica, one for juniors and a second for seniors, provide excellent and unique opportunities for practice.
Our program is accredited by the council on Social Work Education, and its philosophy is to help the student master a generalist foundation for beginning practice at the bachelor's level towards promoting social and economic justice. We also provide opportunities for service learning to expand your horizons and experiences.
